Have you ever been to a hospital and if so why?

I have only been admitted to the hospital once and that was for the birth of my baby girl :)

I do know that I was admitted once as well when I was a baby, but I can't remember what that was for.

When you are in trouble, who do you call for help?

It depends on the kind of trouble I am in.

My husband is always first.

My parents are second if I feel like they can help.

My best friend Jenn would be next, but if its a car issue her husband Tom would be next if Abe didn't answer.

What was the last experience that made you a stronger person?

I am going to say my divorce. It was the last experience that I have been through that had every emotion every made involved. I knew getting a divorce was hard, but I didn't expect to go through so many emotions that were involved.

It was the best decision my ex and I made and it was the best thing we did for our daughter. I know that sounds crazy and most people are going to say you should have stayed together for your daughter, but I disagree. We were unhappy and we did what was needed.

In return she now has an awesome step father and an amazing sister. She also has a caring and loving step mother that I couldn't have asked for a better one. She is incredible with my daughter and I am blessed to have our life the way it is now.

Life sure does throw some huge mountains your way. You can either give up and let the emotions win or you can fight and climb over the mountain and be better on the other side. That is what I choose to do :)

What do you miss most about being a kid?

The innocence.

The freedom of not having to pay bills.

The food that your mother made.

The friends you had and the fun that you had.

When did you last sing to yourself? To someone else?

The last time I sang to myself would be today. I have the radio going all day long at my work and I sing when I have a song I like come on.

I would say singing to someone else would be my daughter. I sing to her all the time. She is at the age that she thinks I am crazy and I love it. We love to sing at our house and we do it often!

Who is your favorite author?

HANDS down, my favorite author of all time is Nicholas Sparks. I have never read a book by him that I didn't like and I have never read a book that I didn't cry in.

I can say though, with all his books being made into movies, that his books are by far the best. His books have more in them and definitely would be my first choice if I had to read the book first or watch the movie! I want to get all out of the book first and then watch the movie!

What's the craziest thing you’ve done in the name of love?

The craziest things I have done in the name of love were...

~ Moving from Louisiana to Washington state when I was 19 years old...

~ And then eloping at the age of 35 to my current husband. Eloping was definitely exciting and fun until you get back to deal with all the people who could not believe you did it. I am very thankful for my husband and wouldn't change anything!!!

Live, Love and Lead with Courage

MOPS International Convention 2010 Notes

Workshop Title: Live, Love, and Lead With Courage
Speaker: RJ

Sadly, I arrived about 15 minutes late to this class. I was physically and emotionally tired while I was in this class, but tried to take notes as best as possible.

·         LIVE from the inside out.
o   Life happens. If we know who we are on the inside, it’ll show on the outside.
§  Integrity -> Honor your word
§  Influence
§  Impact
o   What do people say about what you’ve done?
·         LOVE like Christ.
o   Love yourself – you can only give what you have.
o   See yourself the way God sees you.
·         LEAD with courage (using faith).
o   When we live and love, we lead differently.
o   Be willing to put faith into action.
o   Put the person above the task.
o   Lead by example.
o   Life is measured by what you give, not what you have.
o   Don’t ask people to do something you aren’t willing to do.
o   Be ok with giving up authority.
o   See the best in people.

·         Where are you going? What is your vision?
·         Don’t worry about what you don’t have. If God says, “Go,” then, “Go.”
·         Can you see or do you have vision for where you are going? They are 2 different things.
·         Those who can’t accept their beauty don’t get it.
·         If you see others differently, you will treat them differently.
·         It’s ok to be afraid, go anyway. It requires you to be able ask for help.
·         God wants to change the way we do and see things.
·         Don’t DO leadership, BE leadership.

·         Don’t worry about what you don’t have, use what you do have.

Things you remember... - FIRST house

Things that I remember about my first home...

We lived in the same house all throughout my life growing up with my parents. I never moved around from house to house and I got to call this one house my home all my life. It was definitely a great experience growing up. My childhood house was amazing. It had a front porch swing which was sat in many times by many people. We had a fridge outside and then next to the fridge was our wash room. It had the washing machine in it and the dryer as well as my dad's tools and a ladder that led to the attic. The backyard was gated for many years, but part of the fence fell down and I don't think it was ever replaced. We had a brick thing in the backyard that was kind of like a garden but I don't think it was. I can't remember what it was, but it was there for a long time. We had many many trees on our property and the memories of helping my dad rake and bag up pine needles were many. I even planted a tree once and watched it grow outside my bedroom window. It was one of my favorite things to do.

The inside had 3 bedrooms, 1 very small bathroom, a kitchen and a living room with a hall closet and a bigger pantry closet. We had a hallway that went along the kitchen and the bedrooms and that is where we spent many nights during bad thunderstorms. We would close all the doors to the rooms and we slept in the hallway. My bedroom was painted blue and my brothers was gray I believe. My mom and dad had wood paneling walls and then the bathroom I can't remember, but we had a laundry shoot in there where we would open it and put our clothes in it and sometimes I would pull it out and block the door so no one would come in. The bathroom had a heater in the wall that you would light with matches and it would heat the bathroom rather well. But having 1 bathroom was challenging with 5 people. The kitchen was yellow and we had many meals in there. Mom was always cooking for everyone and baking and it was very well used.

I can't remember what the living room was like but I remember we had the piano on the wall by the kitchen and then they had 2 recliner chairs and a couch in there growing up. With 2 bookshelves that were on each side of the TV. It was a great house growing up and one I will never forget. We had great memories growing up and of course some not great ones, but the great ones far outweighed the not great ones!!!

Would you rather?

Be able to fly whenever you want or be invisible?

EASY! - Fly whenever I want. The option to fly to visit my momma and enjoy time visiting with her every day/every week would be amazing!

There is no one like you!

Yet for us there is one God, the Father, of
whom are all things, and we for Him; and
one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are
all things, and through whom we live.
1 Corinthians 8:6

God, you are my father who gives all good
things. I have life because of you, and there
is no one like you.

I ask that you would deepen that truth in my
heart today. Point out my idols and the things I
worship apart from you, that I would remember
you alone are my God.

Give my friends and loved ones freedom
from their idols as well so they can fully enjoy
being part of your family. Help them know that
you are their only creator and nothing on this
earth has ownership of them.

Thank you for loving us, your creation, even
when we go astray.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

Would you rather?

Be 3 inches taller than you are now or 3 inches shorter than you are now?

MY ANSWER IS TALLER... I have a very tall family and I am the short one. My dad is 6'4 I believe, oldest brother is 6'5 and my middle brother is 6'6. My mom is 5'9 and I am the shortest being 5'5. I get my shortness from my dad's mom who was 4'9 I believe. I don't mind being short, but if I had the option I would choose taller!

What would you rather?

Would you rather?

Skip Christmas for a year or skip your birthday for a year?

This answer is easy. I would rather skip my birthday. Skipping my birthday would only affect me. Skipping Christmas would affect everyone in my family. Our girls still believe in Santa, so to take that away from them and take the magic of Christmas away is just not okay.

And honestly, Christmas is about the birth of Jesus Christ... How could I take that away?

What would you choose?

Hallowed Be Your Name

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your
name. Your kingdom come. Your will
be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Matthew 6:9–10

Father, you are above all, know all, and see
all. Yet you hear me as if I am your only

May I not view you as a distant father, but as
one who has come to earth and understands the
challenges and temptations of my life. Be near
me today and whisper reminders that you are
close and holding me as your child.

My friends need you today as they make difficult
decisions in their workplaces and within
their families. Would you show them that you
are closer than even their earthly fathers?

Thank you for hearing me and listening to
my pleas.

It’s in Jesus’ name I pray this, amen.

Would you rather?

Have a beach vacation or a mountain vacation?

This one is tough. I love both places so much. I have never actually had a mountain holiday but to think about being in a cabin with a fire going enjoying time inside and then time in the snow it sounds like fun.

However, I feel a beach vacation would be my answer. I have kids and both my kids are summer kids. They would rather be in tank tops and out in the sun than in the snow. The snow is only fun for so long before the cold takes over. I feel my kids would much rather the beach vacation any day!!!

What about you and your family?

Saturday, November 14, 2015

Would you rather...

Go to the doctor or the dentist...

I would much rather go to the doctor than the dentist. I get very anxious when I have to go to the dentist office. A doctor's office I am normally pretty calm. So I will say doctor.

What about you?

Director of my Steps

And because you are sons, God has
sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your
hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!”
Galatians 4:6

Abba, thank you for sending a helper to
direct my steps. You know everything and
will guide me in your will.

Help me to know your will. Keep me on the
path you have set for me. Give me the desire to
stay true to that path, and forgive me for the
times I have already strayed from you.

Be with my friends and family who are at
a crossroads and don’t know what to do next.
May your spirit guide them and make the best
decision clear.

Thank you for caring about the details of my
life, for not believing any request is too small.
I pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.

Pet Peeves...

I have a lot of these but I feel like they are not too bad.

I can not stand in any way clicking or tapping constantly... I normally take all of my bosses clicking pens away from him when he has his clicking moments. The clicking of the PEN is the WORST!

Cabinet doors/drawers being open drive me bonkers. I am constantly going around the house closing drawers and doors...

Those tend to be my worst ones... do you have any and what are they?

What would you do if you had insomnia...

What would you do if you had insomnia and had to find something to do to entertain yourself?
Oh my goodness... I can definitely say that if I did have insomnia (and I thank God I do not have it) there are many things I could do to entertain myself. Of course I would have the TV on for noise because a quite house is nice, but if it is all the time I would go insane. I have a new sewing machine so I could definitely learn more about that by watching you tube videos. I do different crafts, like scrapbooking, pen pal writing and all that stuff I could do late at night to pass the time. I also love to make cards so I would spend my time doing that as well as cleaning anytime it needs it. The options are endless. I could work out as well and much more..

What would you do or what do you do if you have insomnia?

Remind me Today!

For you did not receive the spirit
of bondage again to fear, but you
received the Spirit of adoption by
whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
Romans 8:15

Father, you have made me your child through
your Spirit. In your kindness you adopted
me and delivered me from sin and death.
Remind me today what it means to be your
child and to be free from that law. It is so easy for
me to live my day on my own terms. Help me to
live it in light of your grace.

I pray for my friends and family. Help them
experience your love as their father and feel their
inheritance in your spirit.

Thank you for accepting me as I am but not
leaving me the same.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

Are you an optimistic or pessimistic?

I am an optimistic. I always have been and always will be. I have been through so much throughout my life and if I always looked at the pessimistic side to everything my life would be a very unhappy place. I also want my daughter to know that no matter what happens in life, there is always good things around the corner... so I try to be optimistic about every situation we are faced.

That does not mean that when the tough times come our way I am not stressed/worried, etc. I do have my moments, but all and all I try to make sure that I remember things will be okay and it will eventually be better!

What about you?

Understood by Jesus

Hebrews 4:14-15

Whenever disaster happens in your friends' lives, it is natural to try to comfort them in any way you can. But how many times do you feel as if you've said the wrong thing? Sometimes expressions of consolation create even more pain. For example, the well-intended words "I understand" feel empty if the speaker has never actually experienced the situation.

Yet we all long to feel understood. And it helps to know individuals who have endured circumstances similar to ours. Today's passage reassures us that Jesus truly understands because He experienced struggles like ours.

The writer of Hebrews refers to Jesus as our High Priest. Each year the man who was chose to serve in capacity would enter the Holy of Holies and there, in God's presence, offer a sacrifice for sin (Lev. 16). The priest was the Jewish people's bridge to God. Christ no only took on this role, but He Himself also became the sacrifice when He died on the cross. By doing so and dying in our place, Jesus endured every possible sin. Now He sits at the right hand of the Father in heaven and intercedes on our behalf.

That in itself is encouraging. But even more than that, we know Jesus truly understands our pain and our weakness. For example, a single parent who has suffered greatly can be assured that Christ also knew betrayal (when Judas turned against Him), loneliness (when Peter denied knowing Him), and depression (when facing separation from His heavenly Father).

If you feel alone in the hardships you're facing, recall Jesus' trials, hurts, and temptations. You'll find comfort in His understanding.

Hardest Choice you have Ever made...

The hardest decision I have ever made was my decision to move to Washington state from Louisiana and then again after my divorce my decisions to stay in Washington.

It was a tough decision to move out of state and move so far away, but it was also one of the best decisions as well. Its never easy to be away from family at all, but I absolutely love it here and living here makes me happy. I love the weather, I love the nature that is all around me and now I have an amazing group of family and friends that I can't imagine my life without.

Washington state is an amazing state and it has so many awesome things to do and see. Thankful that God brought me here and has given me such a great circle of friends and family... :)

How to Foster True Friendships!

1 Samuel 18:1-3

We all long to be in genuine relationships. God created us with this need, as we were not meant to live in isolation.

Our world is so drive by technology that many people today try to ease their loneliness through computer interactions. However, we cannot deny that if a friendship relies solely on social media, it doesn't compare to the human fellowship. But healthy friendships don't just happen. They require intentional effort.

Last week, in looking to Jonathan and David for a biblical model of godly companions, we saw how mutual respect is vital in a healthy friendship. Now, let's look at two more aspects of their relationship. These men had an emotional love for one another; their hearts were knit together (1 Samuel 18:1). When one man experienced joy or sadness, the other man felt it too.

They also had genuine devotion to each other, which is a type of commitment that involves giving: To show loyalty, Jonathan gave his friend material items--his robe and weapon. But both of these men selflessly offered more. Jonathan even risked his life and future kingship in order to save David from execution. Notice, too, that Jonathan was often the initiator and the one who gave more. He was a prince, whereas David was a lowly shepherd. Social status shouldn't interfere with cultivating a true friendship.

We were designed for true companionship based on mutual respect, genuine love, and commitment. This requires time, selfless devotion, and transparency--which means being real, even about our faults. Taking such a risk requires trust, but genuine relationships are well worth the effort.

Guitar playing...

My husband has 2 guitars at the house and I love listening to him play when he picks them up! It has been one of my favorite things to listen to the last 5 years.

I am super excited because a certain someone is asking Santa for a guitar for Christmas and I am so excited that I think Santa and I could agree on her getting something like that from the big guy :)

Building Lasting Friendships

Romans 12:10

How many true friends do you have? At first, a lot of names may come to mind, but the longer you consider the question, the more likely it is that the number will start to dwindle. The reality is, we do not have many genuine friends--the ones who will remain loyal no matter what circumstances arise.

This dependable, intimate closeness is what the Lord wants for us, but it's a rare treasure. The biblical account of David and Jonathan can help us learn how to foster such a relationship (1 Samuel 18-20). Their story demonstrates that genuine friendships are built upon a foundation of mutual respect, love, and authentic commitment. Today, let's explore the first component.

For true companionship, each party must appreciate the other's godly qualities. This starts with an attitude of valuing all people. After all, if Jesus choose to die in their place even before they acknowledged Him as Savior, they must certainly have great worth. But at the same time, the high regard that David and Jonathan had toward one another was greater than mere respect; it revealed admiration for qualities that Scripture commends. These included loyalty to the nation of Israel, courage in battle, and strong faith in God.

Consider the question asked earlier about the people you deem "true friends." Do these individuals exhibit godly attributes that you respect? And do they, in turn, have admiration for the biblical characteristics they see in you? This mutual, scriptural respect is a necessary foundation for genuine and lasting friendship.

Smells of my childhood...

When I was a kid, there were many smells that I remember...

Cooking... there was always someone cooking. If it wasn't my momma, my grandmother was cooking or baking. My mom and grandmother always had goodies for us to eat growing up. The holiday's were magical with all the baked goods that were made.

BABIES... there were always babies around when I was growing up. Baby lotion was the best smell I can remember with those babies.

I remember the smell of the leaves as we had to rake them and then at my grandfathers house we would pile them up and then jump in them. It was such great memories!

A Brave Hearted Leader

I found this paper in my room when I was cleaning my book shelf area and wanted to share with others before throwing it away.

A Brave Hearted Leader:

  • perseveres in tough times
  • is willing to take a risk
  • can cast a strong vision
  • does what is right even when it's unpopular
Four Steps to Becoming a Brave Hearted Leader:
  • Focus on what God can do, not on what you cannot do.
  • Embrace your calling.
  • Surround yourself with other brave leaders.
  • Move!

If we don't work together, it won't solidify as a team!
God doesn't want you doing it all alone. You are a team!

How many cities have you lived in?

I have lived in 2 cities in Louisiana and I have lived in 4 cities in Washington.

I do not like moving around a lot. It actually stresses me out and gives me bad anxiety to do it, so I have stayed put in the same home since 2006. I have no plans to move anytime soon and I am okay with that.

Happy First Day of School kiddo... I can't not believe this is her going into 2nd grade. After the toddler stage it seems like life goes by too quickly! It seems like just yesterday she was starting preschool and then kindergarten and now we have a beautiful second grader. She is loving her class and her teacher and loves that her friend Jude is in her class. He has been in the same class with her since Kindergarten :)

World Suicide Prevention Day

I will be lighting a candle at 8 pm to show my support for suicide prevention to remember my cousin Marla Faye and Trena who both ended their life to suicide. It is not an easy thing to talk about, but it is real and it happens all the time!

Thursday's Shows

This is one of my favorites as well. I am however disappointed in the ending of last season, but they gotta keep things interesting right?

This is a new one. I use to watch Heroes back when it was on and this is a new one. We shall see if I like it.

Abe and I watch this and its hilarious. I love it.

Wednesday's Shows

This is the one show I can watch over and over again. I just love the whole cast and its definitely my favorite.

This is slowly becoming not my favorite anymore. All my favorite characters are leaving and we shall see what this coming season brings.

Another of my favorites. It goes along with all the other Chicago shows.

Tuesday's Shows

This is by far one of my favorite shows to watch. I watch this alone and I love it. Gibbs is my favorite of all time! Love it!

This is one of my few favorites. I like shows that connect with other shows from time to time and they do well with Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, and Law and Order: SVU. Now they are adding Chicago Med so it will be even better!

This is new. I have not seen this one yet, but if its like the other 2 Chicago shows I will love it. We shall see!

And the Fall season premiers begin soon...

I figured since the new season will be soon for the Fall TV Shows, this week I would spend each day sharing what TV Shows I watch and what I think of each one...

On Sunday's I have no shows that I watch... So I figured I would share what shows I watch during the summer on today's post...

Summer time shows are:

American Ninja Warrior - My whole family can sit and watch this. Its awesome to see what people can do when they put their minds to it and its even awesome to see the legends fall sometimes and then learn that they move on and continue. I even enjoy seeing the rookies make it on their first try to the end.

Running Wild with Bear Grylls - This is interesting. I have only seen 3 episodes but right now he is on actors/actresses and I think its interesting to see that even though they are famous we all have the same fears. Its been interesting to say the least!

Rookie Blue - I am a huge fan of cop shows. Always have been always will. This one is no different!

Zoo - This is a new one and I am just not sure about it. I keep watching it to see how it progresses, but this is a possible no go for me for next year. We shall see.

Rizzoli and Isles - This is a great show about 2 best friends as they work together to catch criminals. I love it and I love the cast!

Royal Pains - This is another show that I love. Its about 2 brothers who work together in different positions to help others.

Ink Masters

Cedar Cove - This is a newly favorite and I love it.

This is C and her Uncle Sid. It breaks my hear that she never got to fully know him like I was able to. He passed away due to cancer when she was 2 and she remembers he is her Uncle from the pictures we show her, but she doesn't remember him. She knows he is in Heaven and she misses him a lot. :(

Trust ME

Trust Me in the midst of a messy day. Your inner calm--your Peace in My Presence--need not be shaken by what is going on around you. Though you live in this temporal world, your innermost being is rooted and grounded in eternity. When you start to feel stressed, detach yourself from the disturbances around you. Instead of desperately striving to maintain order and control in your little world, relax and remember that circumstances cannot tough My Peace.

Seek My Face, and I will share My mind with you, opening your eyes to see things from My perspective. Do not let your heart be troubled, and do not be afraid. The Peace I give is sufficient for you.

John 16:33; Psalm 105:4; John 14:27

This is from the devotions for every day of the year book called "Jesus Calling" by Sarah Young.

I am a little of both I believe. If I have a great leader, I will follow and rock what I do. If I am needed to lead, I can do that as well. I have no problem being a leader. I have had a few roles as the leader and I succeeded the roles as best as I could. So, I can do both!

Another special birthday...

Another special birthday to blog about in the month of August... today's birthday is my dear friend Brittany. I met her at church. I started working in children's ministry because of her and we did a bible study at church together and then I joined another bible study she was in... we because really good friends and she joined MOPS and enjoyed my last year of MOPS with her being in there with me.

I am super blessed that she is in my life and I am super thankful for this lady! I pray that God grants all your wishes this birthday! Love you lady!

Throwback Thursday

Heather and I grew up together since we were 2... we lived behind each other growing up. There was so much that we did together and one day we decided to bury a time capsule. We were young and we decided that when we were graduating high school we would dig it up the night before we graduated. So, we put all our stuff in this jar and buried it. It took us about 2 hours to find it. We knew the general area it was in, but wasn't sure exactly... so we dug and dug and dug... Mrs. Cindy was a trooper and stayed out with us the whole time taking pictures of us. We finally found it and opened it. we missed our other friend who buried it with us, but she moved a long time before this.

It was a fun experience and I was surely blessed to have a best friend since the age of 2. This woman has been through hell and back with me and we have been through amazing things and very deep dark things. Together we have come through and she is now my sister n law. I love her dearly and am extremely thankful for her!
