Quote of the Day

Loving Father,
Help us remember the birth of Jesus, that we may share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds, and the worship of the wise men. Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world. Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting. Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings, and teach us to be merry with clear hearts. May the Christmas morning make us happy to be Thy Children, and the Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven for Jesus’ sake. AMEN

Quote of the Day

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
while visions of sugar plums danced in their heads.
And Mama in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
had just settled our brains for a long winter's nap.

When out on the roof there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
tore open the shutter, and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
gave the lustre of midday to objects below,
when, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
but a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles, his coursers they came,
and he whistled and shouted and called them by name:
"Now Dasher! Now Dancer!
Now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid!
On, Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch!
To the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away!
Dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
when they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky
so up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
with the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
the prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head and was turning around,
down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
and his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
and he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes--how they twinkled! His dimples, how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
and the beard on his chin was as white as the snow.
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
and the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
that shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
and I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself.
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head
soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
and filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
and giving a nod, up the chimney he rose.

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, 'ere he drove out of sight,

"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"

Can we have happiness without sadness?

I don't think we can... We have to climb over the mountains sometimes to see the beauty that lies within. You have to go through a storm to be able to see the rainbow. Life is full of emotions, but I do not think we can be happy without having moments of sadness.

What were you thankful for this Thanksgiving?

I was thankful for my momma who was able to come be with us for the Thanksgiving holiday's. This woman has been the best momma a girl could ever ask for. When I went to the hospital almost 2 months ago she flew up when I said the words "I need you momma." No questions asked... no let me think about it. She got the tickets and come to be with me. She is an incredible mother and grandmother and I don't know what life would be like without her in my life.

I am thankful that I was able to make Thanksgiving dinner for the first time for my mom. I have only made dinner one other time so this was a blessing to me. (I only hope the food was good... haha)

Ever been to California?

Why yes... I have.

My husband and I drove from Washington state to Sacramento, California to go to his brother's wedding 2 years ago. It was such a long drive, but it was an amazing time together with my husband. I would do it all over again if I had the chance... long roads ahead of us... listening to old music... talking hours upon hours to each other...

We did have a minor car issue, but thanks to the help of a stranger we were able to get back on the road after a 2 hour delay... The wedding was amazing and we had a blast. We headed back to Washington and decided to spend the night in a hotel in Portland and walk around the mall there before heading home the following day.

I will take road trips with my husband any day! I love being around him and it was a perfect chance for us to just be together...

Favorite paper?

Do you like to use college rule or wide rule paper?

I actually do have pen pals. I had some growing up, but lost touch with those. This past year I joined a website called Swap-bot and I have met a ton of people through the website. You can do different swaps with different people and I have done a few pen pal swaps. I think I have about 10 ladies that I write back and forth to during the year. It has been fun and I enjoy sending letters in the mail, so it is fun for me.

Where were you in 1999?

In 1999 I was still living in Louisiana for more than half the year. The first half of the year was pretty rough on myself and the rest of my family due to the loss of a family member at a young age due to suicide. I moved to Washington state later that year and I have loved living here ever since! What a beautiful place to live and be able to explore!

I have 1 left. I had my top 2 removed back in 2005 and then at the beginning of 2016 I had one of them removed that was poking out and making my gums not very happy. What do you miss about being a kid?

I think the thing I miss most about being a kid is not many responsibilities. You were allowed to be a kid and you didn't have to pay bills or make life work. I also miss being around my family. When you are older you tend to not have that many family things going on like you did when you were kids. I enjoyed running around with my cousins and watching my younger cousins grow.

Life is life, fight for it...

Throwback Thursday

My wonderful Aunt Carla and I.

Pesky little gallbladder

July 18th I went to the urgent care due to really bad abdomen pains that radiated to my back. I had many tests done, including blood work and a ct scan. They sent me home after a while with no answers.

Over the next month and a half I was in and out of the urgent care and once went to the ER. The answer was my pesky little gallbladder was filled with gallstones. When I say filled it was completely compacted with the stones, which was not fun!

The end result was surgery to remove my gallbladder which we had set for August 26th. I had to do a NO fat diet the last 2 weeks before my surgery. Those 2 weeks I had no pains, which was amazing. The surgery was set for 8 am with an arrival time at 6:30 am. My husband waited in the area and I was taken to get my pre-op done. They started an IV drip and gave me antibiotics to help make sure no infections happened after my surgery. There was a lot of waiting and reading on my phone. The anesthesia doctor came in and we went over things for that part of the process. I was taken back to the operating room and got all set up there before they knocked me out. I woke up in the recovery room which is never fun, but it wasn't so bad. The nurse there never left my side except to go get my glasses and my phone. About an hour later I was taken to a chair and my husband was brought back. He helped me get dressed and about 30 minutes later we were on our way home.

Recovery at home was slow. I slept on the couch for about a week due to not being able to lay on my side. I am a side sleeper so it was rough. Finally I just sucked it up and laid on my back in my bed and it wasn't too bad. It took a few days before I started sleeping on my side in the middle of the night without my knowing it, but it wasn't too bad. My husband stayed home with me that Friday and the whole weekend. Monday he had to go back to work and I was left alone at home. My goal was to go back to work on Tuesday, but that did not happen. I wasn't ready to return to work. Wednesday I went back to work and made it until 1 before having to head home. Thursday and Friday I worked all day.

A week after my surgery Friday night I started having the pains again and I ended up in urgent care. They did some tests and my liver levels were high, so they gave me some meds to help with the pains and then asked me to come back Saturday morning. I headed up Saturday morning and the levels were still high, but they sent me home. Saturday around 12 the pains came back and I was told by the on call nurse to head back to the urgent care. We got there around 1 and many tests were done and they communicated with the surgeon's office... after 6 hours they finally told me that I was going to the hospital to figure out what is going on. We got our stuff together and we left to head to the hospital.

Abe grabbed dinner and snacks before heading to the hospital and we checked myself in shortly after. I called my momma and told her what was going on and asked if she was willing to come up still. She started doing some checking and said she would call me back. I was told I couldn't eat until they figured things out, so I ate as much crushed ice as I could. The first night there wasn't much they could do so we just got settled in and after some time we headed to bed. Before bed my momma told me that she would be here Tuesday at 1. Sunday we did more waiting. They told me that I needed to do another MRI of my abdomen and it was a waiting game until they came and got me. I was still unable to eat anything. Monday around 12, Labor Day, it was finally MRI time. I was wheeled away and they did an MRI of my abdomen. It was the longest 25 minutes of my life. I had to do it with my arms above my head and a thing on my abdomen to help show them what they were looking for. After the MRI my pains came back and I had to get my first dose of pain meds while being in the hospital. Hours later around 7 the head nurse came in and let us know that they found the problem and it was a stone that decided to stay behind causing me all this pain... The end result was I had to have an ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde CholangioPancreatography) which in short was a scope that they sent down my throat and it ends up in my bile duct so they could find the stone and break it up and suck it out. That was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. I was so excited because it would be after my momma got here. Abe had to go to work Tuesday which made me a little nervous because I would be by myself. Our niece came and sat with me until around 11 when she had to leave. I got up and walked around a little bit as well to keep the blood moving in my legs. At around 2:30 they came and got me to take me to pre-op for my scope procedure. My momma wasn't here and I was alone. I was so sad. I called my mom and they just pulled into the parking lot. I got to the pre-op and the nurse there called for my momma so she was able to come down and sit with me until the procedure. I talked to the doctor doing the procedure and he was awesome and explained everything very well. I then talked to the anesthesia doctor and we went over that process as well. Everyone was extremely awesome and made me feel comfortable. Finally they wheeled me off for my procedure and I woke up in recovery. This recovery was different because I never saw the nurse, I just heard her and talked to her with her being behind me. Finally they wheeled me back to my room. I was out of it for a little bit but my momma and my husband were waiting for me when I got back. I even had food waiting for me when I got back. Granted it was a liquid diet, I was so excited to have something to fill my stomach with. I was so hungry after 3 days of no eating. My mom left later that evening with Cadence to head home and Abe stayed the night at the hospital with me. This man is amazing and has never left my side the whole time (except to go to work, which is understandable). Wednesday came and Abe headed to work. I got another liquid diet at 6 am and then my doctor told me if I was able to eat some real food I could head home, so I got on the phone and ordered some real food. The nurse came in while I was eating and I told her I was ready to leave when I could. They started getting my discharge papers together and my best friend came to pick me up. I finally left the hospital at 10:15 am and I was so thankful to be out of there. I was sore, but I was ready to be home with my mom and baby girl and hubby! AND LET ME TELL YOU... I was super excited to sleep in my own bed! The hospital bed was not very comfortable at all...

So, that was my gallbladder experience. I am back at work and my momma is back in Louisiana. I am able to eat foods again. I can't eat as much as I use to be able to eat due to my stomach shrinking, but I am doing good. Fried foods seem to upset my stomach so I am staying away from those for now, but I am doing better. I am still sore around my incision spots, but they say that would get better each day and it would take 4-6 weeks to feel normal again. Tomorrow is 3 weeks since my surgery so I am getting closer to the 6 week mark! I am thankful for all my friends and family that helped out during the last 3 weeks... Some friends brought food, some friends brought gifts like flowers and a nice blanket which I use every day, some came to visit in the hospital and some helped get me home and helped with my baby girl! Some family sent get well cards and each and every one made my day! I appreciate every prayer that came my way and I am so thankful to not be having pains anymore!

Throwback Thursday

I was down in Louisiana when Hurricane Rita hit. We had to evacuate to Baton Rouge during it, but my dad stayed behind to stay at his work. What a rough experience... I am thankful I was there with my mom during it, though!

5 years from now...

Where do you see yourself?

I see myself still married to the love of my life raising our 2 kids who will be 16 and 13. Both will be in the teenage years and we will probably be going crazy with the girl hormones. I will still be at my current job and my husband will be flourishing at his job. I see us being happy and living life to the fullest. I would love to be living in our own house and driving newer cars...

What about you?

The top 2 radio stations I listen to are:

105.3 which is a christian channel
106.9 which is considered soft rock but to me it is more today's hit songs than rock

If you want to make your dreams come true, the first thing you need to do is WAKE UP!

Tuesday, June 14, 2016

What would you rather?

Ride a bike or ride a horse?

I would personally rather ride a bike. I can control things a lot more when I am on a bike verses being on a horse. They have minds of their own and falling from a horse seems like it would be more of a fall than falling off a bike.

100 things about me

1. I have been on the Twilight tour. We toured Port Angeles, Forks and had so much fun at LA PUSH. It was a blast... the 8 hour drive was well worth it.
2. I never went to my high school prom. I hate to dance… I have never regretted not going.
3. I am FINALLY a college graduate.
4. My mom has got to be the best cook in the whole entire world. Go figure... me being the only girl and I did not inherit those genes!
5. My idea of a relaxing day is to spend a day at the spa. I am not a fan of massages because they either don't do it hard enough or do it too hard, but I love facials, pedicures, manicures, body scrubs and all the fun stuff that goes along with relaxing.
6. My favorite card game has got to be Canasta. It is so much fun to get a group of women together to play. I have played with my mom and my aunts. Even that was fun because you get to see the competitive side of them. (Not always good haha).
7. I can not keep a house plant alive to save my life! No matter what kind of plant it is (whether it be an easy one to keep alive or not) it always seems to die on me.
8. I am addicted to makeup. Not all kinds, mostly just eye makeup. I can’t even tell you how many eye shadows I have but I can’t stop getting them. My friends love the fact that I like all kinds of colors because they like me to test out colors first.
9. I have always loved tattoos. I have 4 and plan on getting a few more before I say I am done.
10. My best friend Jenn and I are going to get matching tattoo’s soon.  Go us!
11. I absolutely love scary movies. And I can even watch them at night without having nightmares. (This has changed a little bit now that I live by myself with my daughter. I still love watching them, just have to do it during the day)
12. I cannot stand coffee or tea. I know... people always get confused when I say that I hate tea. They think just because I live in the south, I should like it.
13. I have never tried any form of drug out there that is considered illegal. The only drugs I have taken have been prescribed by my doctor. I was always a good girl growing up. Still am in a way!

15. I am a proud owner of an x-box 360. It is all mine.

17. Speaking of tests... it took me 3 times to pass the written test to get my drivers license and it took me 5 or 6 times to pass my test to get my insurance agent's license. I know the stuff, the tests just SUCK.
18. My favorite holiday of all time has to be Christmas. I love the Christmas music the most and I am definitely a giver. It brings me so much joy to be able to give.
19. I have a broken nose. I am not sure how I got it, but I know it is broken. I went to a nose specialist when I had nose problems and that is how I found out. Funny part is... ever since being pregnant, my issues have gone away! Go figure.
20. I have 2 favorite singers. The first is Kenny Rogers. I have been listening to him since I was 4 years old, when I would walk around with a tape cassette player and sing along to his songs. The other is Michael W. Smith. He is a Christian singer and has got to have one of the best voices out there.
21. My favorite board game is scrabble. I actually have a board that is their anniversary edition and it actually spins the board for each player to see when it is their turn. I love it.

29. My dad made us kneel on rice when we were bad. It was raw rice and man did it hurt. Not to mention, the minutes after you were done picking the rice that got embedded in your knees.
